A nice puzzle involving,as it did,lots of 1/2 combos.
Many thanks Mike.

Many regards

Gary

P.S.Hopefully the number of people enjoying the assassin is not reflected in the number of replies.

Enjoyed this one..many thanks.Took me just under the hour..no really difficult moves so I'ld rate it about 1.0.

Regards

Gary

P.S. Looking forward to seeing no.100 even though it sounds fearsome!!

Thanks for a nice puzzle,Afmob.Took me 45-50 mins and I'ld rate it about 0.75.I think it's just the sort of level of difficulty that the forum needs now and then to bring in new people who may not be quite ready for the 1.25-1.5 mind-benders. with r5c5=4 r5c12={23} thus r2c46={79 or 89} and the inni...

Yes,the last version of 97 was horrible!!What surprised me though was that all the variants, including this one, were solvable in roughly the same way.. combo work on r789 and, especially N8,which then leads to restrictions in c5,especially N2

Like Afmob..a rest is called for!

I enjoyed 97 v1.5 too. As for v1 it was relatively straightforward to show that in N8 the numbers are; 275 938 146 After this it got tricky.Could place r1c1=3/4 and r1c9=2 In N2 1 is in the 12(3) cage ..nowhere else in c5 The 27(4) cage N12must contain a 9 so in N1 9 is at r2c23 Also in N1 1 is in r...

Re UA97 V1. I found this one fairly easy.Took me 35 minutes to complete which was OK,long enough for a Saturday evening!!If we rate the Times "deadly" killers as about 0.5 I'ld say this one is about 0.75. r89c4=15 r89c5=9 r89c6=6 r8c37=10 combo analysis on the two cages in N8 with the abov...

I certainly wouldn't say v1 was "much too easy" for regular assassinators. It was relatively easy to show that the 13(2) cage N2 ={67} but then I didn't spot for quite a while that the 11(3) cage couldn't contain a 3.Given that the innies in N3 are{137} this meant that r2c7=3,r3c7=7 and r3...

Thanks for pointing out the typo Andrew..I should have posted...can eliminate 3 from r5c3 as this places a 3 at both r4c4 and r8c4.

I'ld rate this as 1.25 at least..or maybe I'm out of practice!? The innies of n14-> r5c3=2/3,r6c23=1 2/3 so r7c2=4/5,hence r6c6=7/8.With r7c126=10 combo work in n7 places 4 in either r7c2 or r8c23.It is then fairly straightforward to eliminate 3 from r4c3 as this would place a 3 at both r4c4 and r4c...

For a change I did this week's "mind bending" killer on killersudokuonline, number 114.Quite good fun..I'ld rate it as harder than the Times deadly ones but easier than any assassins,so about a 0.75. the outies for nonet 6 plus possible combos for r37c8 together with the 45 cage -> r7c78={1...

Sorry to be a bit heretical but I've actually enjoyed NOT doing an assassin for a couple of weeks. Now I feel a bit fresher and looking forward to future challenges whereas all those 1.25+ brutes were beginning to wear me down!!

Gary

P.S. Aside from Ruud, what's happened to Cathy and Para??

Not many replies re this one.I think Afmob's rating is about right.I didn't use any really hard moves solving this killer combos in n9 and rows 89 together with r258c8=13 leading to some early placements after which it came out ok

Like Afmob I was only able to solve this one using a contradiction "move". I-O combos on N1 together with constraints from the 6(3) cage N1 and r159c4=9 -> r4c1=4 The 14(3) cage c4 thus contains a 1 and the I-O N2 then ->r4c6=5 So r4c4=5/7,r4c6=6/8. Also r59c6=[27] and only by a contradict...

Yes,much easier than last week's.

once the various prelims are in place and you can place r3c3=5/6/7/8/9 then the other combos in r3 and N4 mean that 13(2) cage N2/3 must be 94 after which it's a straightforward mop-up.

Can't relax with av2 threatened though!!

Hi Andrew, It's not that I'm a particularly fast solver but that I don't normally keep a wt as I go along as this definitely slows me down.Of course it is then sometimes a problem when I wish to reconstruct my solution. Then again, you or Afmob or Mike will have written out more elegant wts than I cou...
