Good morning all

It has been exactly 6 months since i posted a Killer-X on this forum, so it is about time for a new one.
I was playing around with some cage patterns and came acroos the following. It contains a little trick, that could help you in solving. There's always ways around these tricks but if you notice it all the better.

I named this Killer "Transformers Killer" because the center cages remind me of the Transformers logo, which i used to watch when i was still a little boy. That is also why there are 2 T's shaped pieces.

There are 2 versions posted below. The official version and a "Lite" version for during the lunch break(especially for Cathy, who seems to solve killer sudokus instead of eat during her breaks). Both are solvable without hypotheticals. Rating-wise i think these are about a 1.00-1.25 and a 1.75.
There is a third and fourth version available as well which. One is harder than the original, but for anyone who feels he or she hasn't had enough you can get it as well. It might need some hypotheticals. The other one is designed as a no PM killer. Andrew once asked about my other puzzles, and that is about the general level of Killers i create for more recreational purposes.

And don't forget, these are Killer-X's so both main diagonals use 1 through 9 exactly once as well.

Yeah, I can definitely see a face in there somewhere...

I'll try the original (that's me out of action as far as A68 is concerned then!)

Update: Standard moves exhausted and a huge forest of candidates still remaining! Looks like I'll need to find that trick Para was talking about...

Hi all

I have to be honest and say, you need the trick for the ratings. If you don't get it, the rating goes up substantially. No solver seems to pick up on it, but there is a way around it. The trick is something new to me but actually not that hard. But it has all to do with the cage pattern.

I haven't spotted it yet! :scratch: If "the trick" is still proving elusive by tomorrow can we have a tiny clue?! Otherwise it's probably going to take a very long time nibbling away at conflicting combinations.

I think I've found it! :D I'm now wondering why I missed it the whole time. If I'm correct, and it really is "the trick", then it would work with any variant based on this cage pattern.

Still, although it helps, there's still a long way to go, so don't expect a WT from me that soon!

Had to have a big hint from Para about "The Trick" but have now solved the Transformer Lite. "The Trick" is clever - seems obvious once you know!! The puzzle would indeed have been very difficult to solve without it. Many thanks Para for this puzzle. :)

Since A68 is out tomorrow, I'll let Mike do the WT for the original.

With the trick, yes I would agree with 1 - 1.25 for the Lite.

Yes, I think so. There were some advanced moves in the original Transformer, so I think a 1.75 rating is not a bad estimate.
