Assassin 17 Version 2

Look the liberty of making a small change to Assassin 17 to make it a bit harder. It's still solvable by logic.

The text file is in TinyText following. Does anybody have the ability to 'set' a picture version for me?

Have been able to work out how to print out a decent sized picture version once you have downloaded the text version into SumoCue. Will put that in Tiny Text. But you will have to corrupt your computer Andrew and download SumoCue first if you want to use this method!

Making a decent sized print copy
1.Open the puzzle in Sumocue
2.Press the Print Screen button on the keyboard
3.Paste into Paint
4.Click on the Select tool
5.Click and Drag over just the puzzle
6.Select Cut from the Edit menu
7.Paste into a Word document and make it whatever size you want
8.Save and print

Hi Ruud and SudokuEd

I assume the original version of Weekly Assassin 17 will stay as the main puzzle.

At this stage I'm assuming that version 2 is just to make the puzzle a bit harder to do the first steps. The changes appear to be just that the 9(3), 9(2) and 14(2) cages in N89 have become 14(3) and 18(4) cages. At a quick glance the value in R8C6 is unchanged.

Thanks Ruud. And the colours fit my mood exactly after just hearing that our Australian Women's Basketball Team (The OPALS) are World Champions, beating Russia - who beat the USA in the Semi's. (BTW - our national/international sporting colours are green and gold).

Absolutely. Ruud is just helping me out with the picture of V2.

Yeah - it's got the same solution, just changed the cages in N89 around a bit.

When A17V2 first appeared I didn't get very far with it. I was still resisting using elimination solving; my A17 walkthrough finished "and carry on, the rest is filling in the remaining candidates and simple elimination".

Recently Ed encouraged me to have another go at A17V2, having improved and learned some new techniques in the year or so since it first appeared.

Here is my walkthrough for A17V2. Step 7a, one of the key moves, is probably the most useful IOU I've come across. The hidden killer pair in step 16 was probably a slightly easier way to sort out R456C7 than Ed's hidden complex single in C7, which was itself a neat move.

I found the other key move, step 26, difficult to spot so for that reason I'll rate A17V2 as an easier 1.5 rather than a harder 1.25.

This puzzle differs from A17 because of changes to the cages at R8C4 and R8C6. There were still easy starters at R2C6 and R8C6 but the cage changes took away the other easy starter at R9C6 which now doesn't get placed until "the rest is naked singles".

Here is my walkthrough for A17V2.
