46. 2's in C7: either 2 in R1C7 or R456C7
46a. R1C7 = 2 -->> R4C8 = 2(2 required in 18(5).) or R456C7 = 2 -->> So 2 in N6 either in R456C7 or R4C8. R56C8 and R6C9: no 2
46b. R5C7: no 9

50. 16(4): any combination with 1 also needs a 6: 16(4) = {1267/1456/2347/2356}
50a. 16(4) has 1 -->> R123C5 = 1 -->> R9C6 = 1 -->> R4C4 = 1 -->> R1C4 = 6 (45 on c1234)

Wow - you guys are going fast - and so many great moves. Too many to list so what about just =D> :D . Oops, Para's just done another step. Slow down for a sec!

Just to repeat what Para noticed: 10b is not valid, but those 2's get eliminated by Para later anyway.
rcbroughton wrote: 22a. 2 combos with 1 - {1678} & {1579}
step 5 and 6 has already eliminated {1579}: unless I've made a mistake
rcbroughton wrote:25. 45 rule on n78 - r6c23 minus r78c6 = 8 - max r6c23 is 17, so max r78c6 is 9 - no 9 in r7c6, no 7,8 in r8c6
Because of my wrong step 10b, this can only be no8 in r8c6

50. 16(4): any combination with 1 also needs a 6: 16(4) = {1267/1456/2347/2356}
Add 50b. no 8 or 9 r123c5

This is where I'm at [edit:put 8 back in r7c6:thanks Peter].

OK, this is a very long chain which involves all cages in N147, but it places the first numbers.

Edit: Step removed, not valid

51. r7c3 = 1, r7c2 = 2
51a. r7c3 = 4
51b. r7c2 = 1
51c. r9c3 = 2,
51d. 26(5) = {13679} -> r6c2 = 9, r789c1 = {367}
51e. r8c23 = [59], r9c24 = [89]
51f. 17(4) = {2456} -> r6c3 = {56}, r78c4 = 2{56}
51g. r23c2 = {23}
51h. r5c23 = [47] ({56} in r6c3, 3 and 8 in r239c2)
51i. r4c1 = 5, r23c1 = {49}, r1c1 = 8, r6c3 = 6, r78c4 = [52]
51j. 30(5) has 8 (in r1c1) but no 9 (blocked by r23c1 and r9c4) -> 30(5) = {23678|24578} -> both can't be placed because 2 is in r23c2 and r8c4
-> no 4 in r7c3

Could someone please verify that before we move on.

I think it's correct, so I move on with some more steps.

Edit: steps removed because they are based on the faulty previous step.

52. r23c2 = {14} -> 1,4 locked for c2 and N1
52a. no 7 in r5c3

53. r8c4 = 2 (can't be in r4c6, that would leave no 2 for N9)

54. N478 : 17(4) = 12{59|68} -> no 3,4,7

55. r78c8 = [61]|{34}

56. 2 locked in r4c78 for r4 and N6
56a. no 9 in r5c8

57. Cleanup: no 5 in r14c4

58. no 5 in r4c1
58a. only combination for 18(3) with 5 is {459} but only place for 4 is also r4c1

Sorry, now it's bed time. :wink:

Isn't {45678} also possible?
Or did i miss the elimination of {45678} for 30 (5)?

[edit]
Now i see the mistake. {23678|24578} add up to 26. I think you are mixing up cages.

Another problem I see with Peter's chain is 51f. 17(4) can also be {2348} from what I can see. Don't think it works. Sorry Peter.

Also, note a missing 8 in my pic at r7c6 has been edited in.

Another way to proceed - will start from step 59 to avoid confusion.

59. By combining the information from a number of steps the following chains are possible -> no 2 or 3 in r5c5

r5c5 -> r5c9 -> r4c9 -> r4c4 and 11(3)n5 -> r1c4 -> r123c5 -> r6c5 -> 22(4) n8
59a. r5c5 = 2 -> r5c9 = 9 -> r4c9 = 5 -> r4c4 = 3 and 11(3)n5 = {146} -> r1c4 = 4 -> r123c5 = {156} -> r6c5 = 4 -> 22(4)n8 clash with {1564} in r1236c5 [edit]
59b.
1.r5c5 = 3 -> r5c9 = 8 -> r4c9 = 6 -> r4c4 = 2 and 11(3)n5 = 146 -> r1c4 = 5 -> r123c5 = {146} : Blocked by 11(3)n5
2. r5c5 = 3 -> r5c9 = 8 -> r4c9 = 6 -> r4c4 = 2 and 11(3)n5 = 146 -> r1c4 = 5 -> r123c5 = {236}: Blocked by 3 in r5c5
59c. no 2 or 3 in r5c5

60. r5c5 = {56}, r5c9 = {56}: locked for r5
60a.no 7 r6c4
60b. 11(2)n4 = {38/47}
60c. r4c9 = {89}

61. 22(4)n5 = {1678/2569/4567} (no 3) = [5/7..] ({2578} blocked by 8 required in r4c9 with 5 in r5c5)
61a. {57} blocked from 12(2)n5
61b. no 4 r1c4

I'll stop here: "Out of the frying pan and into... a black-hole" :wink: .

i would add to 59a. 22(4) N8 because we have 2 22(4) cages. and you are using both ;).

I'll try and find something now.

62. R4C7: no 5. Let's call this step a Hidden Killer Quad {1234}
62a. R4C123. Needs one of {34} (only option left in N4(can't use both because of 11(2))), R4C456 needs one of {124} (for 22(4) cage)(can't use two)), R4C8 = {1234}, R4 needs one more place for one of {1234}. Only option left is R4C7, so R4C7 ={234}: no 5.
Hope this is clear.

63. 26(4) in N236: max R4C7 = 4 -->> min R23C6 + R3C7 = 22: no 4.
63a. 26(4) : no {5678}
63b. 9 locked in 26(4) -->> R3C4: no 9

64. R2C4: no 9
64a. R2C4 = 9 -->> R1C8 = 9 -->> no options left for 9 in 26(4) N236
64b. 9 locked in N2 for locked C6
64c. 9 locked in N2 for 26(4): no 9 in R3C7

I am very sorry about my previous steps, should have gone to bed earlier. But I'm also very stubborn so I start this chain again.

65. no 4 in r7c3
65a. r7c3 = 4
65b. r7c2 = 1
65c. r9c3 = 2
65d. r9c24 = {89} -> killer pair {89} for N7
65e. 26(5) = {13679} -> r6c2 = 9, r789c1 = {367} -> 3,6,7 locked for c1
65f. r9c24 = [89]
65g. r8c23 = [59]
65h. r23c2 = {23} -> 2,3 locked for c2 and N1
65i. r5c23 = [47]
65j. r234c1 = {459} -> r4c1 = 5, 4,9 locked in r23c1 for c1 and N1
65k. r4c2 = 6
65l. r46c3 = [38]
65m. r56c4 = [84]
65n. 22(4) at r4c4 = {1579} (because r4c56 = {79}) -> r4c4 = 1, r5c5 = 5
65o. r4c78 = {24} -> conflict with 11(2) at r5c7 which should be [29]
-> r7c3 = 1, r7c2 = 2

Correction/addition in red.

I hope this time it's correct.

[edit] renumbered

66. R3C7: no 8.
66a. R3C7 = 8 -->> R2C4 = 8 -->> no possibilities left for 8 in R1.

67. 45 on N3: R3C7 - 3 = R1C6 + R4C8
67a. max R3C7 = 7: max R1C6 + R4C8 = 4 : R1C6: no 4,5; R4C8: no 4

68. 26(4) N236 = {2789/3689/4679}: no {4589} because it needs 6 or 7 in R3C7.
68a. R23C6: no 5.

[edit] ok the chain works but needs a few more steps.

65p. r5c6 = 3 -->> r6c56 = {17} locked for r6. No place left for 7 in N6.
