Not valid puzzles

Post by zoltag »

These are observations about how SQ handles puzzles that it doesn't deal with perfectly although they are understood in most senses.

This clearly broken "puzzle" when pasted in doesn't "paste in". I understand what it is doing but would have expected it to "paste in" and give some kind of error message. What it does do is accept part of the "puzzle". Below are the broken paste thing and the result.

Code: Select all

. 1 4 | . 6 8 | . . 7
6 . . | . . . | . . .
. . 9 | . . 5 | 1 . .
---------------------
7 . . | . 8 . | 9 . 1
. 9 8 | . . 6 | . . .
5 4 . | 7 . . | . . .
---------------------
. . . | . 6 . | 3 . 5
. 8 . | 2 5 . | . . 4
. . . | 4 . 3 | . 9 .

. 1 4|. 6 8|. . 7
6 . .|. . .|. . .
. . 9|. . 5|1 . .
-----+-----+-----
7 . .|. 8 .|9 . 1
. 9 8|. . 6|. . .
5 4 .|7 . .|. . .
-----+-----+-----
. . .|. . .|. . .
. . .|. . .|. . .
. . .|. . .|. . .
This isn't a problem, it seems odd though as "paste" is "broken".

If you paste the result (the second grid above) into SQ it takes it as I would expect, though aware the puzzle isn't a complete puzzle.

Why then does a valid puzlle that one pastes in, a puzzle too hard for the settings toggled, get an "invalid" message in the bottom bar?

Both puzzles cannot be solved, the invalid puzzle gets no warning, the valid yet too hard puzzle is labelled "invalid".

These are quite trivial matters, I raise them merely in case you didn't intend these to be so displayed.

Good suggestion. Changed it to display a message with the choice to continue or abort. Coming in 2.0.0.5.
