Nice little puzzle there. :)

According to my own solver, after the puzzle is converted to digits, it is solvable using the "easy" techniques plus one UR and one ER. :P

Can someone explain to me the following: Some houses contain the same letter. So how can a straight number substitution be made? What am I missing here?

Have you noticed how his letters are arranged? Some of these letters might ring a bell to people who have taken a particular school subject...

All you need to convert the letters into digits is some elementary knowledge. 8-)

Darn, I still couldnt find the key to this one, while my 15YO just looked at it and immediately suggested using the... well... you know... some periodic...

Anyway, thanks again Ruud for this off field experience.
