Marlie,
A big transatlantic hug for you. I'm so sorry for your loss. I really did pray for you and your mother.

Seems like it's time for some decisions.

First - a HUGE congratulations to everyone who has donated to Ruud over the last six weeks. The view count on the "Thankyou from Ruud after Paypal donation" has gone up well over 350 clicks!! =D>
sudokuEd wrote:my other ego trying to become registered (at sudocue.net). "testEd" ... I have not received that second email
Still haven't. It appears no new members can join this forum, even with the "registered users" number going up.
sudokuEd wrote:(sent) Ruud an email.. asking him to give someone here the power to admit new members
He hasn't. And no response from Marlie's phone call (thanks for doing that Marlie!). Hmm.

So, all the indications are that we have no long term future at sudocue.net, which is a terrible blow. But, until the site goes black there is hope. In the mean time, until things are certain, I'd like to suggest we move to another "home" (emergency accommodation might be a better description), until Ruud is ready to resume here or give someone administration powers.

I think Richard Broughton would make a wonderful host for both the killer and overlapping/multiple grid forums.

1. Richard is pro killer and clue-less and samurai etc though his work on SudokuSolver. For example, he has put in a huge effort over the last few weeks to improve the way SS allows humans solvers to work with the over-lapping/multiple grid puzzles (NOTE: not yet released). It's been a terrible battle trying to get him back onto killer stuff  .

2. We could be as shamelessly Ruud & sudocue.net focussed as we wanted to be. For example:
SS copyright blurb (Help-About) Richard wrote: The solver routines have been built on original logic over a period of time inspired by many wonderful problems at www.sudocue.net and elsewhere. Some of the features of the user interface have been inspired by Ruud's Sudocue and Sumocue software - the rest is mine. Thanks to Ruud at sudocue.net for allowing me to support imports from SudoCue/SumoCue format files
A move across to SudokuSolver forums is like keeping us in the sudocue family.

3. He is a long-term, loyal forum member, tireless worker & incredibly responsive to any feedback or suggestions.

I hope that taking this action now will not guarrantee that sudocue.net ends up going black. Hopefully, things can rebuild here again.

In the mean time, if anyone has a better idea or a different opinion, please speak up. It was only just over a week ago the I was determined to be patient and voted to stay but now find myself impatient to move. Am open to another re-think.

Cheers
Ed

An excellent message, Ed. You've put in a lot of thought!

I guess I'm in two minds on this one. I don't want to lose what we've got here, which obviously can't be transferred over to another site without Ruud's permission, but at the same time I don't want a sudden blackout and lose everything.

Regulars on the Assassin forum will know that I've contributed a lot there, which I wouldn't want to lose. If we did move to "temporary accommodation" and then later found that Ruud had returned or given someone else administrator power, it would be helpful if some way could then be found to transfer whatever was posted at the "temporary accommodation" over to this site to provide continuity.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm reluctant to move but if there's a move by many members, particularly the regular message posters, then I'll go along with it.

Great post, Ed!

I agree 100% on everything you mentioned.

I agree, and have already signed up (as the fourth member, behind Richard, Ed, and sublue). Come on guys, where are the rest of you?!

The forum may look a bit bare at the moment, but we'll soon change that! But even without many posts being available, it's good fun playing around with the newer phpBB features that aren't available with the old version that Ruud's using here.

With this new forum, my optimism and enthusiasm is returning once again. :bounce:

To be honest, I'm not looking for "temporary accommodation", I'm looking for a permanent new "home". Even in the scenario you mentioned, I'd prefer to stick with Richard than return to Ruud. Even if Ruud were to return here, I'd probably boycott his puzzles after this whole fiasco anyway!

Wow, this happened faster than I expected. I have to say I totally agree with Mike. Even if Ruud came back, I wouldn't know if I could pretend that nothing happened. Of course if he had a really good explanation then things would be different. But for now, it's best to embrace our new (permanent) home, thanks Richard! =D>

We should discuss when we are going to move, so that all users know that from this point on all major activity is going to be at Richard's site. My suggestion would be 2nd of May since this is a friday and the regular Assassin, in this case uA 101, would be posted (and hopefully solved ) on our new home. And most importantly there would be enough time for all users to move without rushing.

:ot:

We even might begin with A1 on Richard's site though it should have a different name (RA? Richard's assassin :?:) since those assassins wouldn't be unofficial anymore but I want to keep the name Assassin in there.

I agree completely with sudokuEd, Andrew, mhparker and Afmob.

Richard, big thanks from me also for taking on this effort. I have now registered with "Sudoku Solvers’ Forum" and it will be my new home, even if Ruud returns. Since Ruud doesn’t even bother to post a single message giving us a perspective, I don’t bother to hang on here.

As soon as a couple of details have been sorted out, I will start posting my puzzles both here and in "Sudoku Solvers’ Forum". End of May I will drop SudoCue.net and post them in "Sudoku Solvers’ Forum" only.

I agree with you guys. I hope that Ruud does come back, but we do have to make contingency plans. So, I'm glad that you did, Richard and Ed. I'll go sign up now, and simultaneously hope for the best with Ruud - that is an impressive number of donations, by the way.

I agree. Can't see the point of carrying on here past the 100 mark. Starting from the date you mentioned, I won't be posting any more puzzles on this site.

Agree that the "unofficial" should be dropped, and that we start over at #1 again. As far as the name is concerned, it's probably best if we all discuss that on a new thread on the SS Killer Puzzles forum.

Mike

The url link is http://www.rcbroughton.co.uk/sudoku/forum/ but URL is not working just at the moment. The new forum is still being set up - but includes clue-less, explosions, samurai etc.

But here's a deal Marlie - you try your first killer and I'll try my first clue-less :D . Just not this weekend though - got a couple other projects happening
8-) .

I've already mentioned this problem in a post on the new forum. If the above URL doesn't work, just try http://www.rcbroughton.co.uk/sudoku/forum/index.php instead.

Look forward to seeing you there, Marlie!
